).
Summary
2020 was a very unusual year, with all club activities between March and December severely curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This disruption continues into 2021. The effect on the club finances was that turnover approximately halved compared to previous years. Despite this the club’s financial position remains strong.
The accounts for the year show a small cash surplus. The key income/expenditure changes were as follows:-
 Income
 ·   -   Reduced subscription income
-Â Â Â Â Reduced track income
Expenditure
·      -    Reduced track and sports hall hire
-Â Â Â Â Reduced number of leadership & coaching courses
-Â Â Â Â Reduced league affiliation and competition entry fees
Membership
As at 31 December 2020 the club membership was:
Senior members affiliated to EA:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 279
Senior/social members not affiliated to EA:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 143
Senior Life members:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 40
Junior members (all affiliated to EA):Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 195
Total membership:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 660
This is a reduction of about 80 compared to 2019.
Detail
The principal features of the accounts for the year are as follows:
1. Total Club gross assets (cash in the bank and physical assets) increased.
2. The UK Athletics levy remained at £15 per competing member, and will not increase for 2021/2022. The Northern Athletics affiliation fee of £2 per competing member was not imposed and therefore not charged to members, however we expect this to be charged for 2021/2022. Thus the proposed 2021/2022 basic club membership fee is £14 for all members to cover club operating costs, plus a £17 England Athletics/Northern Athletics levy for members who compete for the club in EA events (non-competing & U11 members do not pay this). All EA/NA levy funds will be passed directly to EA.  Note that at the time of writing (11/02/2021) these subscriptions rates have not been finally agreed; the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic may result in further changes to the proposed subscription rates for 2021/2022.
3. Track fee income reduced substantially because we reduced the fee to a fixed rate (£30/year) for everybody. However the track hire cost also dropped as we were not charged for the five months the track was closed. Overall we made a small net loss on the track. The committee have proposed that the annual track fee for 2021/2022 will be £50 for all members if the track remains open. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic may result in further reductions in track fees for 2021/2022.
4. Coaching costs were significantly reduced because EA cancelled all their face-to-face courses. Some on-line training took place.
5. Event entry fees were significantly reduced because most of the leagues cancelled their affiliation costs and no competitions took place after March.
6. The club normally organises four races: Macc Runfest, ‘Not Langley Not 7’, Forest 5 and ‘Terry’s High 5’. All were cancelled except ‘Terry’s High 5’. The net proceeds (after expenses) from this race were £267, donated to Cre8. The Macc Runfest organisers arranged a virtual event which raised over £12k for charity.
7. The project to upgrade the website has been on hold during the pandemic.

Well what a match vs Wilmslow Running Club! They put up some great times and the match was on the edge until the final runs were recorded today. Down to the efforts of every Macc Harrier runner we just won with a score of 14,094 to their 13,602. That’s down to us having a great showing of 123 runners to their 112 revealing that every runner does count! Now it’s onto the Finals for Band 3 against Marple Runners who also had a close match with Running Bear Running Club. Registration is now open for the Final at the following link. Hopefully everyone has found a good route for their next fast 5K to try to give Marple good match.

Club Fell Running and Endurance Awards

Before Christmas it was agreed that we ought to get the awards out for the 2019 Season to celebrate the achievements of our members. It had been hoped we’d be able to make more of a splash around this, but the rapidly increasing Tier system meant that there was an urgency to getting these delivered before we were back in Lockdown. The awards were subsequently delivered before Christmas from the back of a car when we were still in Tier 2!
Congratulations to:
Billy Hicks (Men’s Open Champion / Open Handicap Fell Champion / Summer Series Men’s Champion)
Alannah Birtwistle (Ladies’ Open Champion / Summer Series Ladies’ Champion)
Kathleen O’Donnell (Ladies High Fell Series Champion)
Simon Fox (Men’s High Fell Series Champion)
Oscar Trevena (Club Enthusiast Award)
Rob Gittins (Male Endurance Award)
Steff Wood (Female Endurance Award)
Nathanael Booker (Best Newcomer Award)
The manner in which the awards were distributed does nothing to counter the pride we have in all of our members-come athletes-and we look forward to seeing new runners come through the ranks, representing the club (at every level) or doing awe-inspiring crazy challenges in the future. Perhaps you’ll be one of them?

Our Mob Match Round 3 vs Bramhall Runners was a success with a score of 13679 to their 8876. We are now up against an ever strong Wilmslow Running Club in a Round 4 Semi Final knockout for the chance to get into the Mob Match finals. To win this next match will take another strong performance and a full complement of runners. Remember every runner scores points so there is no excuse for us to have less than our 125 limit. Get those fast trainers on and let’s give this our best! Registration for Round 4 is at the following link:

Update from the Club President (28 January 2021)

It looks like we may have at least another month before any relaxation of restrictions occurs. This is fine as long as we do not then allow ourselves to create another lockdown afterwards.
So please continue to train as best you can either on your own or with one other person. If you run by yourself, try to do it in daylight, always let someone know your route and have a means of contacting someone in the event of an emergency. Â Wear protective clothing and always take full account of the weather conditions.
With the leisure centre remaining closed, please do not use the track.
There are however some positive initiatives into which you can tap....
Please read the latest update from the Mental Health Champions (on the club website)
For the youngest age groups there are a  series of virtual Sportshall sessions and tests. (Anne Farmer has the details)
For road runners there is still the opportunity to sign up and RUN in the 5K Mob Match) against other local clubs (Ray O'Keefe is coordinating).
You can also try a whole series of runs in and around Macclesfield using trail routes. This will be particularly useful for trail runners, but also aspiring group leaders who might benefit from new routes (Neil Gunn is organising - full details in the club Trail Section Facebook Group).
Assuming the T&F season can go ahead, the dates for the three leagues in which we compete have been finalised. We hope to host 4 matches during the season. (Sarah Dilworth will issue the calendar of events). The first event is the YDL on Sat 24 April for u/13s and u/15s. So it is vital that we engage and recommence training as soon as it is safe to do so.
For the Cheshire XC champs - which the county have made preparations to host at Betley court farm; they have had to be deferred . A final decision will be taken  at the next county meeting on the 15 Mar. A date in April is being targeted.
Provisionally the county T&F champs will be held at Ellesmere Port on the preferred w/e of 8/9 May. If not possible then, a later date will be investigated.
The North West Road Relays will go ahead on the 12 Sept at Birchwood. Cheshire has agreed in principle to host the event .
SO please stay safe, positive and continue to be patient.

Bob Lynch

Hello Everyone
As we all continue to be in lockdown due to the current situation with Covid 19, it is still very important that we look after both our physical and mental health and wellbeing. Whilst group runs are not permitted, please do reach out to your fellow runners, whether that be via social media or remembering you do have someone’s number. If you are injured then do still try and get out within the guidelines, for a socially distanced stroll and a chat.
There are some great tips from England Athletics (CLICK HERE) and your mental health champions hope to be back doing some more run and talks soon. Look out for a February Harriers virtual event in February too (Trail Section).
Any questions please do email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and your mental health champions will do their best to signpost you for areas of support.
