Langley 7

For 2020 - No race this year, I'm afraid, sorry: but we're hoping to be back in 2021

____________________________________________________

(For 2019)

*** Updated start list below *** and... it could well be wet, which could make certain sections of the course (the downhill bits !) slippery: please take extra care in the first mile or so.

See you tomorrow !!

The 2019 Not Langley not 7 will take place 10:30 on the morning of Sat 26th October, ie a week earlier than previously. This is to avoid a clash with the folk who sell the Christmas trees in our venue: they use it from 1st November onwards. As last year, a morning race.

An ***updated ***  start list is here..  http://www.macclesfield-harriers.co.uk/images/notlangleynot7startlist2019.pdf

And some information about this year's race here..  http://www.macclesfield-harriers.co.uk/images/langley7information2019.pdf

There will be entries on the day.

See you bright and early up at Trentabank on Sat 26th October! and many thanks on behalf of Rossendale for your support as always, cheers Julian and the team !

(for 2018)

Thanks all for coming to today's race. Not too hilly was it ?!

As always we'd like to thank everyone who made the race possible, especially after having to move the venue.

Marshals, the Rossendale folk at the water station, finish folk, sweepers, the tea and cake team and all those who provided cakes, Bryan for the photos, Dunwood First Responders, Judith Cooper for the physio, Jon Tatham, and not least Hilly for their support and Martin Winder and the Forest Rangers for the use of their hall and car park as our new venue.

And finally, you lot for supporting our race with your entry fees for Rossendale, and donating so generously for tea and cakes for our good cause this year, we've raised several hundred pounds for Terry, and it is very much appreciated.

We've added up the pennies now and have donated £3124.00 to Rossendale Trust.

Once again we had reasonable weather, well, a bit draughty on the tops but no-one complained of being too cold at the finish.

Results are below, on average, the race took most runners about 10 minutes more for this course compared to previous years.

and Gemma Moorhouse to a few photos of the Macc Harriers and a few others here... https://www.flickr.com/gp/163934834@N07/9pg26w

At the finish feedback seemed to be in favour of keeping the race as a morning race and over the same course: but as always if you have anything you'd like us to know - good or bad - please get in touch - julianbrown10 AT hotmail.co.uk . All being well, we'll be back next year !! Cheers julian, Jo, Jon, Dave and Colin your 'not' Langley 'not' 7 team.

(for 2018) We're back for another go this year... but not exactly a re-run of previous years !!! Read on....

The car park we've used for Donkey's years has been acquired by Mr Seddon of house building fame, and is on its way to becoming a nice new estate. So we had to find somewhere else... and there aren't too many options around Langley: but we wanted to keep the race going, partly to give you lot a run out but also to help raise some money for a much needed cause...

So....

Something new - Several new things actually. Our race start / finish and route are new this year, as you can see below. The start / finish is at about the 6 mile route on the 'old' route, but from there much of the route is new. Don't worry, you still get to run up Wythenshaw Lane, but there are a couple of other shortish climbs as well (and of course the corresponding downhill bits to enjoy) and some different scenic and challenging lanes for you to run on. The route is all on road, and is now 'about 8 mile' rather then 'about 7'. Finally, the race will be a Saturday MORNING one: 10:30 am start on Saturday 3rd November.

http://www.macclesfield-harriers.co.uk/images/annotated%20route%20map.jpg

Something old - most of our committee (how rude !!), and also the good cause we're raising money for: as in past years all proceeds will go to the Rossendale Trust, more details here... https://rossendaletrust.org/ : so thanks in advance for your support.

Something borrowed - our new start / finish venue and car parking has generously been lent to us for the duration by the Macc Forest Rangers / United Utilities, for which we're very grateful. However, the car park is not as big as our old one, which unfortunately means we'll have to a) reduce the number of entries we can take and b) means we can't guarantee car parking space to anyone who arrives in a car on their own (there is a small amount of on-road parking for solo drivers but don't count on it being free). PLEASE car share, if you do this we'll fit you all in somehow. OF COURSE We'll still have the tea and cake stall, and a memento for all finishers.

.... and something slightly blue: some of the language from a few of our runners on the reccy run as they came up the last hill ! It wasn't that bad though, honest ! And we'll still have the same welcome for you at the finish, however long you take and whether you're first or last.

We'd also like to thank muchly in advance the support for the race we've received from Hilly Ltd, https://www.hillysocks.com/

Entries are open now, and will be limited to 250 for this year.

Here is the link to online entries  https://bookitzone.com/julian_brown/0X2FFX  don't leave it too late !!

Thanks for your support again everyone, and we'll look forward to seeing you on the day (Saturday MORNING, don't forget....)

** We're a bit concerned we'll be done under trade description...... the new route isn't 7 miles and doesn't go through Langley. Please don't sue us though.

(For 2017) In response to literally dozens one request (thanks Kate!) I've added the results for all the years I have them.

Feel free to send me any older ones !

http://www.mh.k313.com/mh/road/Langley7results%202003%202017.xls

Hi all, and thanks to everyone once again for supporting our annual jaunt in whatever way, running, helping, marshalling, baking, biking, serving beer, tea, cakes, sweeping, photographing, first responding, and several others !

We had 286 finishers, (including 83 from Macc Harriers which must be some sort of record), but despite your best efforts didn't run out of cake, beer or malt loaf. The rain held off, more or less, and everyone seemed to come back in one piece.

Results are here http://macclesfield-harriers.co.uk/images/langley72017results.xls  . Congratulations to our winners Diane and Martin, all the other prize winners, and everyone else who ran. Please let us have any feedback, good or bad !

Bryan's photos will be here http://www.racephotos.org.uk/

Lost property, we found a pair of black gloves on the course, and a thing that looks like it goes in your ear and talks to a bluetooth or something (you can tell I'm an IT specialist): if either are yours let me know. We also found one of last year's goody bags in the hall but the less said about that the better, the malt loaf in it was past its best.

We've raised £3830 for the Rossendale Trust, so once again, many thanks.

Cheers Julian and all the team at Macc Harriers.

Welcome to this year's race, and many thanks for entering and supporting our race and the Rossendale Trust.
Thanks also to all those who've supported the race - marshals, timekeepers, officials, the tea and cake crew, Bryan Dale photos (smile as you pass by !) and everyone else who helps the race go well.

I've added ...
a start list http://www.mh.k313.com/mh/road/Langley72017entrylist251017.pdf
a race map http://www.mh.k313.com/mh/road/Langley72017route.pdf
and some information http://www.mh.k313.com/mh/road/Langley72017information.pdf

But basically it's the same as previous years: run up the hill, run down again, drink tea, eat cake.

A couple of requests as always :-
 - If you want to swap your number, please let me know now, with details of the person you wish to swap with , and I'll update the start list.
and

 - please car share as we're always tight for car parking space.

Thanks a lot: see you on the day !!

Update... we're full again, a couple of months before the date: thanks EVERYONE for your support.

We'd like a 'full field' on the day, so....

 - if you have a place, can't run but have a friend who wants to run please let me know ASAP (NOT on the day!) so I can update the start list

 - if you have to cancel and don't have a friend who'd like to run on your behalf, please let me know so someone else can run.

 - if you don't have a place but want to run please let me know and I'll add you to the wait list, and, if and when places become free, let you know.

It's Langley time again Saturday November 4th 2017 at 2pm.

Pretty well everything will be as the last couple of years.... so if you've run before you know what to expect, if not, think... run up the hill, run back down again, drink tea, eat cake....

All the race proceeds will once again go to the Rossendale Trust, we've raised on average £3000 per year for each of the last few years, and hope to do as well (or better!) this year, so thanks for your continuing support.

We're not sure yet, but there's a chance this could be the last Langley 7, not due to lack of support, far from it, we've sold out for the last 5 years, but because the yard we use as the race car park may well be developed soon, which means we'll have nowhere for you to park ! Nothing finalised yet: we'll let you know when we know.

Have a good race ! Cheers Julian, Macclesfield Harriers and AC

Just to let you all know....

... that we handed over a cheque for £2345.50 to the Rossendale Trust today, which will make a BIG difference to them and what they can offer.

So thanks to everyone: runners, marshals, bakers, helpers and everyone else who made the race go well, and helping us make a difference.

We'll be back on the 7th November 2015, with more details to follow closer to the day.

Cheers ! Julian and the Langley 7 team.

(For 2014)

We had a nice warm day, a bit breezy on the tops but decent views to compensate once you got there !

Huge thanks to everyone who helped today's race go so well. All the many and various marshals, finish team, the results team, all the cake makers for their very generous donations, the tea and cake department, St John's bicycle team, Bryan Dale photos, John Honey Physio, Bollington Brewery, all the folk who donated stuff for the slightly eclectic goody bags for free, all the good folk of Langley Methodist Church for letting us borrow their hall for free, everyone I've forgotten, and last but not least the 288 runners for helping us raise well over £2000 for the Rossendale Trust.

If you have any comments on the race, suggestions for improvement, whatever - good or bad, we'd love to hear from you - we're on facebook here https://www.facebook.com/#!/Maccharriers or you can email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. .... except that this year, we're raising funds for the Rossendale Trust, a Langley-based charity (in fact on the route, at about 2 miles, and they'll be there to cheer you on !) that supports people with learning and physical disabilities to lead the very best lives they can. A worthy cause I'm sure you'll agree, so we're hoping to raise as much as possible.

(For 2013)

Hi all, just a quick note to thank EVERYONE involved in this year's race.  We dodged the showers for the most part, and there were some excellent times set despite the conditions.

All the marshals, timekeepers, and everyone who helped in the hall and at the car parking, special thanks to Dave Jackson who was out at 7 am and spent 3 hours marking out the course, then went round and collected them all in again !

Everyone who baked cakes for the post race refreshments, they must have been good as they all went !

St John's Ambulance, who fortunately didn't have too much to do

Cheshire Police, who weren't initiiallly able to come but in the end did a fine job for us.

John Honey Physio, to sort out your tired and aching legs post-race

Bryan Dale Photos, doing a sterling job as ever

North West Water, for letting us use their reservoir .

Thanks all for eating up the tea and cake, and hope you all enjoy your goody bags and beer. We've raised over £1800 for East Cheshire Hospice.

Thanks to everyone who made Saturday's race a success.....

The results are here ......

http://mh.k313.com/mh/road/langley%207%20results%202012.xls

a fine win in the men's by Tim, despite his mum telling me he's just out for a jog - how many have said that - and Diane retained her title from last year. interestingly almost 75% of the field were veterans.

Photos - and video ! of you all are here

http://www.racephotos.org.uk/

Hope you all enjoyed your post-race beer. Numbers slightly down on last year, possibly due to the Tatton half the day after, but we don't mind too much..

We hope to see you all again next year though !

We'll let you know in the next couple of days how much we've raised for East Cheshire Hospice.

Thanks once again, Julian Brown, Alison Horsfield, Dave Buxton and all the organising team !

______________________________________________________________

(Updated for 2011)

Huge thanks to the organising committee, all the marshals, the tea and cake makers, and not least the runners for another successful race. Hope you all enjoyed your beer !!

The results are here. Congratulations to Damian, Angela and all the other prize winners, and to everyone who finished a tough race. (though it'd be a lot tougher today, you'd need your wellies to get round.....)

And £2300 has been raised for East Cheshire Hospice, so many thanks for that too.

We do have a modest quantity of beer left over, this'll be sold off at £1 / bottle (or £12 / case including a free gift !) until it's all gone; get in touch with Tim Stock if you'd like to relieve him of a few bottles.

We have a goodly number of entries already, but we're not full, and will be taking entries on the day.

If possible, though, pleasee enter on line beforehand - here. If you do want to enter on the day PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY.

We'll have Bryan Dale taking pictures of you - details here - Hopefully John Honey physio offering massage at the end - details here

some spot prizes  ... and of course some pre- and post- race tea and cakes for sale to boost the coffers of East Cheshire Hospice.

Hope to see you on Saturday !!!

This year's race will take place on November 5th, 2011, at 2pm ish, round the same scenic and challenging course as last year (details below)

A form is available here, and online entries are available at ukforms.net  - here . Your entry number will be confirmed to you and you can pick it up on race day.

As previously, we are hoping for a full field (300) as all proceeds go to the East Cheshire Hospice.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

(Updated For 2010)

This is one of our most popular races and although some months away organisation is now in full swing.

This year’s race will be held on 6th November 2010 and starts at 2pm from Langley Methodist Church, hopefully slightly earlier than normal to ensure the race gets underway before the bus arrives in the village !!. Entry details are below.

Your entry number will then be confirmed to you by email and you can pick it up from Race HQ on the day.

The route will be the same as last year, details are below.

There are extra prizes this year but the race limit is only 300 so get your entries in early  - it has been a sell out for the last 2 years.

All net proceeds will go to East Cheshire Hospice as in previous years.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

(From 2009)

Thanks to all who turned out on Saturday - marshals, organisers, cake makers, beer brewers, and all the helpers behind the scenes - and not forgetting the runners !

We had over 350 entries - a sell-out !! - but hopefully everyone got a run and enjoyed themselves (and the bottle of beer afterwards).

Results are here.

And we think we've raised at least £1500 for East Cheshire Hospice, which is what it's all about really.

Once again thanks all - and see you next year (but enter early !!)

-------------------------------------------------

Results from 2008 are here.

The results of previous years races are here - footle with the tabs at the bottom.

Tea and cakes will be On Sale in the Methodist Church afterwards !!, (Extra cakes have been made for you !!) - and all profits from the race (including tea and cake sales) are going to East Cheshire Hospice, so it's in a good cause too !

We have changed the finish (slightly) from previous years to save you having to run over the (usually muddy) village green - we've changed the start a bit too so the race is still the same length - (and still 'scenic and challenging'.) Note the new start location.

The Harriers organise this "hilly and scenic" road race on the first Saturday of November each year.

This year (2009 !) it's on November 7th at 2:30 pm.

Here's a PDF document of previous years' route and profile - as you can see it's not changed all that much, a little bit more 'flat' before the 'climb' and a bit less 'flat' after the 'descent' !! And no muddy field at the finish.
