Commiserations to those who did not get a place in the 2020 Virgin London Marathon and congrats to those who did. The club will be applying for Virgin London Marathon places from Oct 28 with notification of our allocated places being by Nov 25. We are expecting to be allocated about 3 places. As in past years we will be having a ballot for these places for runners who meet the following criteria:

1) Fully paid up competing club members who will also commit to club membership next year.

2) Provide evidence of rejection (ie - rejection email) from the main 2020 Virgin London Marathon ballot.

Once we have been allocated the places we will have the ballot in the clubhouse on a Tuesday evening after track training, the exact date will be announced when we have the confirmed places. You do not have to be present at the ballot if you have entered. Anyone who can meet the above criteria should contact the Road Running Manager, Ray O’Keefe ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ), before Oct 27th to express their interest in participating in the ballot for the club 2020 Virgin London Marathon places.

Congleton Half Marathon 2019 Race Report

The early heavy rain and the damp conditions did not deter 28 Macc Harrier from completing the Congleton Half Marathon on Sunday. In fact, there were some great results and times had by many of the Harriers who took on this undulating local Half Marathon.

For the female Harriers Hannah Bridger (1:30:30) continued her winning ways as first female Harrier and 1st female overall! Kathryn Hutchinson (1:38:58) was second female Harrier placing 6th female overall. Joanna Miles (1:46:19) rounded off the top three female Harriers.

For the male Harriers Billy Hicks (1:18:56) had a great race placing 3rd overall less than a minute behind the second place runner. Billy was followed by Chris Goodfellow (1:27:17) and Matt Tatton (1:27:48).

There were some other great times and a few PB’s despite the conditions which are listed below. Full results and pictures/videos of the race can be found below. Great running everyone!

Run Macc Fest 2019 Race Reports

Well the rain gods listened to our prayers and after torrential downpours all morning the rain cleared and the flooding subsided to provide perfect conditions for our very own Run Macc Fest. This year we added a new 10K race and revised the 5K course, with the scenic but challenging Half Marathon course staying the same. Just over 1000 people ran on the day and this does not include all the kids that took part in the Fun Run. Of the 1000 runners there were an amazing 110 Macc Harriers who took part; 31 in the 5K, 29 in the 10K and 50 in the Half! This being our own race Harriers were out to do well and they did not disappoint with some excellent results all around.

In the Half Marathon Macc Harrier Rob Wood (1:14:52) placed second overall just over a minute behind the race winner Thomas Charles from Trafford Athletic Club. Third place went to Rob Grantham from Pensby Runners but there was a real battle between our own Mark Walker (1:18:50 first M40) and James Noakes (1:18:55 first M50) with Mark just holding off James at the finish for 4th place overall. For the women Harriers Kathryn Hutchinson (1:50:21) was first over the line as the 1:50 pacer so just image what time she would have had if she was really racing? Sally Anne Hales (1:54:00) was second female Harrier followed by Joanne Foster (1:55:19) who was 3rd female Harrier and 1st V50.

In the 10K our women did very well. Hannah Bridger (41:06) took first place woman overall to be the very first winner of the Run Macc Fest 10K. Hannah was followed by Cath Wilson (49:26) as second Harrier and 1st V50. Third female Harrier was Helen Gowin (55:10). Not to be outdone, the male Harriers had some great times and positions. John Carr (37:16) as first Harrier placing 2nd overall and 1st V45. Matthew Tatton (39:06) was second male Harrier placing 6th overall. Third male Harrier was James Doorbar (42:08) placing 10th overall and 1st U17. Special mention goes to Colin Ardron (54:51) who was 1st V70 even after spending a few hours in the rain before the race helping to park cars!

From what people have said, the revised 5K course was a little harder than the old course, but that did not stop some of our juniors (and a few seniors) posting some excellent times and results. For the male Harriers Finley Proffitt (16:19) led the way as 1st Harrier and 1st overall. There was a great battle for second male Harrier with Thomas Roberts (17:42, 5th overall) just finishing ahead of Philip Goodfellow (17:48, 7th overall). For the female Harriers Alannah Birtwistle (19:35) was first Harrier and 1st female overall. Alannah was another one who spent most of her pre-race helping to park cars in the rain! Alannah was followed by Rebecca Dilworth (19:50) who placed 2nd female overall and 1st U15. Third female Harrier was Florence Cooke (20:10) who placed 3rd female overall just ahead of Rebecca Main (20:12) who was 4th female overall and 1st U17. Special mentions go to Mike Walton (23:18) who was 1st M40 (and another car parker!) and Sue Stockdale (23:44) who was 1st F45.

As usual there were many more great times had by the rest of the Macc Harriers whose times for each race are listed below. Photos and videos of the day and the full results can by found on Bryan Dale’s website: http://racephotos.org.uk/

An event as big as this would not have been possible if it was not for the many, many volunteers, friends and families who helped out and cheered for the runners on the day. Thanks to all of those how supported the event in any way and see you all next year!
