Wincle Trout Fell Race 2006

Runners from your club have often enjoyed competing in the Wincle Trout Run,
so we're hoping some of them will turn up again this year. The run, which is
a 9km fell race, will be held on Saturday 3 June next year and will be over
the usual demanding, but scenic course near - and through - the River Dane.
There is a team trophy for the first club/team as well as trophies for the
overall and veteran winners. And don't forget, every runner gets a trout!
For the juniors there is a 3km race, including river crossing and medal. And
why not bring your friends and family along as well to enjoy the traditional
village fete whilst you're running.

The start location has moved back to Mellor Knowl Farm
this year (Grid Ref  SJ961655 - see
www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat=53.1868&lon=-2.0592&scale=25000&icon=x).

For more information and entry forms see
www.wincle.org.uk/events_fete_06.html, or contact me.

Hoping to see you here in June. Enjoy your running.

Bulgaria Anyone?

Phil Cheek is organising a trip to Bulgaria in September and is inviting people to accompany him. It is open to all standards, but the running is technically "fell running", so it would not be suitable for those that do not feel comfortable on that sort of terrain. More details in the forum .

2006 Fell Championship Races

Below are the championship races for the coming year. Scoring etc will be as in 04 and 05 ie. Participation and great age will be rewarded. Points can be scored for position as for previous years (20,19,18,17,16,15....) down to 5, in up to 7 races with at least 1 race from each category. Beyond this participation points (4) are awarded in all completed additional races in the list. If you give up your race to organise etc., you can claim automatic positional points (15 as an organiser, 8 for a Marshall). You can only claim once however as an organiser and/or marshall. There will also be appearance points (6) available for completing in the Club Fell Handicap. A multiplying correction factor will be applied to all veteran positional totals that increases with age. All birthdays assumed 1st Jan 2006.

English championship races are again included to encourage members to attend. This year I am making a personal commitment to attend both the featured Lakes races (Anniversary Waltz & Ennerdale ). Both are Saturday races so there's potential to make a weekend of it. At least 3 spaces will be available as my guest in private club ( Fell & Rock ) bunkhouse accommodation at minimal cost. Book early with me if interested to avoid dissapointment. If we get a few members running I think we could do well in the Eng team championship especially the V50 category but also V40 (where the real oldies can still count).

The rest of the races are a mix of local ones (though with some variation over last years selection ) and some less local but "do able in a day trip" and likely "new to you" courses. I have also tried to keep clear of weekends of Mountain Marathons ie. LAMM, MourneMM and OMM ( ex KIMM ) and also the British Fell Relays (this year in the Calder Valley ). Further since a large contingent have entered the Tour of Mont Blanc Race ( again ) I've kept clear of that also.
