World Mountain Running Champs

Having looked at the WMRC website with mild interest I was disappointed to note that the £45 entry fee for a less than 10 K race doesn't include accommodation and a race day breakfast. Neither do they offer a discount for pensioners - oops sorry I should have said masters

That's pricey Colin and it goes up to £49 after 31st March. You get a T shirt for finishing! I'll still probably enter as it won't be in the UK for probably another 10 yrs. Sure it was under £10 a Keswick and you got a cotton T shirt (you could pay for a high tec one).

I know I may come across as a bit negative at times Barry, sorry don't mean to and I wish you the very best and I'm sure you will show 'em how to do it! :D

Interesting to compare the price with this year's World Masters Orienteering Championships in Sweden (not a cheap country). Doing the full 5 races costs €150 if entering before the end of March. It was cheaper before January. That works out at €30 per race or about £23. Although that is much more expensive than most fell races it would seem about right for a world champs. £45 seems expensive but then it costs more than that to see a football match these days, and when the likes of me, Barry and Colin started watching them you got in for 4/- (that is 20p to anyone born after about 1964) and we could see the likes of Bobby Moore and George Best, and England had a World Cup winning team. Mind you I did enjoy the World Mountain Running Champs when they were held on Coledale Horseshoe about 25 years back, and we moaned then about the cost of entering the open race.

I used to be a frequent attendee at Old Trafford in the early sixties. I was still at school with a Saturday morning job which paid me £1 (one), that used to pay for entry to the ground and leave some over for a night out. Today you would have to pay me (a lot) to get me into a football ground.

I've entered. It's only £15 inc a T shirt for the race I want to do.

Didn't notice there were other (cheaper) events Trev - in the £10 race you get a bowl of goulash for your efforts. Can't wait. :)

I'm in also at £15 plus service fee. Thanks Trev for putting me right. I was led astray by Mr Turnip.

How dare you drag my name into this? Mind it is rather something when a silly old turnip can have such an influence.

I queried the entry situation with one of the organisers and the equivalent to the Keswick race held 10 yrs ago is the £45 option ie 1 race for each 5 yr cat (ie the World Masters) and it's on the same day as a World mountain racer for which I believe there are race catagories. I've cancelled and entered the masters. If anyone else has made the same mistake then I can give you the contact details of the guy I spoke to as the "early bird" price will be held.

No I don't but I hope race(s) organisation is not quite so convoluted as the website.
