Xmas Street Orienteering - The Vale - Wed 21st December

Postby Andy Skelhorn » Fri Dec 09, 2016 5:53 pm

Yes, its on again. The Bollington Slightly Surreal Street Orienteering at The Vale Wednesday 21st December.

Arrive at 6.40 for registration, and a quick route strategy session with your team before a 7pm start. Finish at 8.30
Everyone is welcome and it is free (although I may welcome donations for East Cheshire Hospice).

The new format this year is as follows:
1. Get together in advance with 2 others to form a team of 3 (or bunch up on the night) and receive 3 maps and 3 check point descriptions per team
2 Your team has 90 minutes to get to as many checkpoints as they can and return to the start
3. You work out who goes where. Stay together or split up. Some checkpoints are marked as more than others, but each checkpoint can only count once per team.
4. There is a 10 point penalty for each minute late for each team member – so don’t be late !!!
5. At the finish I would like each time to amalgamate their results onto 1 sheet per team
5. Points means prizes

It is mostly on roads and paths - but not entirely, so bring a headtorch and a pencil each, and trail shoes and a polly bag for your map if it's likely to be wet.
The new puppy, Ziggy, will also be on show!

Hi Andy ...do you need people to let you know if they are coming along so there are enough maps?

I've been promoting this with the road running groups and am aware of a few teams likely to show up.

Sounds like a 'jolly jape'...

Neil
ps Most people are only there to meet 'Ziggy'...and 'Lily'...

I'm doing the maps and clue sheets so will try to do 'plenty', but some indication of numbers would be great.

I'll try to print on waterproof paper (particularly the clue sheets) if I can get some - but if it looks wet I'd suggest folk bringing something clear and waterproof to put them in.

Andy / Julian - myself and Matt (Lewis) are also entering. And we've also got a strategy!

See you next week.

Bugger! Will now have to go for the V65+ (on average) team prize.

Julia and I are teaming up again after our (successful, in our eyes at least) handicap performance, along with Julia's daughter Eliza.
There have been murmurings of one or two other Bunyans showing up (yet to be teamed); I am yet to be convinced.

Hazel (I just noticed your post) - and anyone else for that matter - you are more than welcome to join our team. I'm afraid the other Bunyans are too competitive for me though!

Just make up teams on the night. If you get there for 6.45 you should have 10 minutes to look at the maps and come up with a cunning plan before you are all let loose at 7.
Meanwhile, it does not look like waterproof maps will be ready for this event, so please bring an A4 polly bag or mapcase
