Weekend away - 30th Nov - Dec 1st

Postby fellsman » Fri Aug 17, 2012 1:51 pm

It is proposed we have another Harriers weekend away this year to cheer us up before the run up to Xmas and the likely weeks of cold wet weather and dark nights.
The last weekend that we organised, in Whitby, received a low turnout due to the unexpected inclement weather, but the few that did attend certainly enjoyed the experience. The weekend proposed is Friday 30th November and Saturday 1st December, returning on the Sunday. We are planning to go to Wilderhope Manor, in a lovely part of Shropshire. People can view the site on the attached link http://www.yha.org.uk/hostel/wilderhope. It is a great part of the country for long walks and there is the local Cardington Cracker fell race on the Sunday morning for the more adventurous. Unfortunately the nearest pub (I think) is the one at Cardington which is 3.5 miles away so we may need some volunteer drivers!

The prices are as follows; It is £18.50 for non members or £15.50 for members. Under 18s are £15 or £13.50. Our evening meals are £7.95, breakfast £4.95 and picnic lunches £5.75.

Could anybody that is interested put their names forward on here. If there is enough interest, I will advise the YHA, but you will need to make your own bookings. There is plenty of space at the moment.

It's a great venue (old Elizabethan manor house), not too far to travel and with some great countryside on your doorstep (not to mention quite a few pubs....) for walking and / or running.

The race (not compulsory!) is well worth the effort too - tough but something everyone could have a go at.

As Trev suggests, probably best to make your own bookings but post on here / let Trev know you're going.

Weekend is open to all, runners or not and / or families youngsters etc !!

I have just booked a bed for the Friday and Saturday night - in a dorm with two others who are probably Hazel and Jo. If so, thats worked out really well.

I may be up for this, suppose i'd better get my skates on and decide! If I go i'd be willing to carshare with someone, be daft to drive on my own.

For those who don't know there's an LDWA event on the Saturday - 22 miles - or less - not 'too' far away in Llanbister in darkest Wales, details here....

http://www.ldwa.org.uk/challenge_events/show_event.php?event_id=10347

Jo and her sis, Julie and me are going over for a steady plod round - they've suggested runners start 'after 9, or whenever you feel like it really, and run slowly'. I think it's fairly low key.

Can I just remind people that are going this weekend. Please remember to take a couple of towels with you, because you will be charged if you want to use theirs !
