Tegg's Nose Orienteering Tuesday 24th

Postby Clare GVS » Wed Apr 11, 2012 10:18 am

Hi all,

Rik and I are the planners for MDOC's first summer evening event, at Tegg's Nose. All welcome, we've arranged courses from white (easy) to blue (quite technical and nadgery), and have sought out the finest mud and brambles for your delight.

Registration is from 17.30, start times from 18.00-19.15. SI punching will be used. Fees £4.00 senior and £2.00 juniors.

Cheers,
Clare

Hi Clare
If the weather's not too grim then Saam and I should be coming along.

Clare & Rik,
Well done for you first attempt at planning.
I really enjoyed the Green course, good variety, some interesting route choices (on reflection I picked the wrong route for 3 controls), and tricky short legs at the end.
Hope you managed to collect the rest of the controls before dark.
Well done
best wishes, Mike G

Thanks Claire and Rik for what was a challenging course for me, but I really enjoyed it in a perverse sort of way.
My route choice clearly needs some work judging by the numerous cuts and gashes on my legs. For those who did not participate, Claire provided us with an interesting array of controls stashed in inpenetrable forests, caverns and swamps (I'm exaggerating a bit), and there was plenty of route choice between controls.
Part of the challenge was trying to free yourself from the grips of thorny bushes. I made sure that everyone I passed knew who to blame for their demise!!!!
Despite it all, I will be back for more......

Yes despite my full body cover I'm covered in bramble slashes. I performed desperately badly - but at least I can only get better - I think........

Thanks for your kind words all, I'm really glad you enjoyed it although I do feel a certain guilt about all the bramble slashes I saw!

Yes thanks a lot Clare + Rik, enjoyed it in a sort of perverse blood-letting sort of way. What symbol do the Orienteers put on their maps for 'thick brambles, be prepared to suffer'...
I expect Mike mostly enjoyed it because I think he won and got round in half the time it took me, though even I had marginally more success than a couple of the Goyt Valley Striders.....

Thx once again and will look forward with fear and trepidation to your next course, and will get the biking leathers out of the loft.

Julian,

Thanks for the link to the Goyt website.
Cheered me up no end!
Of course I have to be careful, as for one of last year's MDOC Countryside Score Events (based at the Robin Hood), I carefully navigated to The Poachers (in Bollington). No-one was there. Of course when I finally made it to Rainow, I pretended to have been delayed at work, so as not to ruin my reputation as a Navigator!
Yes, Julian, I was pleased to have the fastest time, but beating Andy Thornton was more important. However, Clare and Rik did do a good job with the courses, and I would recommend they look on RouteGadget to see the variety of routes the competitors took.
best wishes, Mike G
