BOARS HEAD RACE WED 3RD JUNE

Postby BARRY BLYTH » Sun May 31, 2015 11:10 am

We had a fantastic turnout and result in this race last year scooping most of the prizes. The less honed among us were especially pleased with the beer vouchers donated by the ladies/mens team winners.

Hope to see you Wednesday

Barry

PS A good turnout of 36 harriers (excluding organiser Julian and marshals) completed the Wincle Trout yesterday.

Hi
Before deciding to put myself through any prolonged pain once again, could someone give me an overview of the race ie hills, mud etc?

Thnaks

Hi James,
it's a bit longer at 13k and more climb at 400m compared to Wincle Trout (9k and 300m) The climbs are steadier. Starts on track opposite the Boars Head in Poynton and works it's way upto the Bowstones via the cage in Lyme Park. It's only painful if you run faster than your body wants to (which is why I suffer in most races). No problems with navigation but on the way upto Bowstones you will see some runners going up diagonally across the moor. Stick with the majority who run/walk next to the wall.

Hope to see you there.

What Barry omits to warn you of is that you mustn't forget the gentle slope (upwards) on the lane to the finish - you will have run down it at the start and not given it a second thought - just save a bit of energy and you could find yourself passing people on the final stretch.

OK Barry, see you there.

Jimmy, I would say it is 70% grass, 30% track.

This is becoming a habit; 1st man Simon; 1st lady Olivia (and 5th overall!); 2nd lady Angela with Rachael coming in 4th lady and securing the ladies team prize (beer vouchers). Pete and Rob (Howler!) secured the men's team prize (more beer vouchers gratefully imbibed by the supporters). 1st mature lady Mandy and even maturer (overripe?) man Barry. Must have been about 30 harriers racing. Well done all.

The Pennine one probably uploads much faster :D

No, seriously, I'm not on FB so have no idea. But would like to see the photos! I saw you lounging on the grass just below the Cage, I tried to smile but it might have come out as a grimace of pain.
