A number of e mails have been tooing and froing re the w/e' event; This was my edited take:

A challenging day out especially with the strong winds. I’ve had a look at the results and I have to agree re Sarah's comments that Clare and Kirsty were flying. Their navigation seemed to be spot on. As Simon said (cue for a song!) CP C on the navigation leg seemed to trip a few teams up. Just looking at our teams the 1st 4 CP splits were follows:

Steve/Digby 8.28 14.26 12. 26 7.35
Simon Matt 7.34 13.30 15.26! 6.58
Kirsty/Clare 9.59 15.55 12.21! 8.30
Sarah/Julie 11.12 20.14 15.35 11.35

Our youngsters Alistair and Tom did well especially given Tom hasn’t done much at all this year. They came 21st (equal with my waterproof bottoms and bumbag) and 19th respectively. Looking at their splits they were 11th and 9th after their 1st CP!

Kirsty and Clare got into the spirit of Christmas (panto); “We’re behind you Kristy” (on arrival back at the changeover).

I’m sure everyone will take something positive away from today's (now yesterdays!) day out. Thanks for all doing your bit and especially Rachael for helping out with the ladies organisation and Brian for the use of his campervan which was a big bonus. Hazel for her cake supply which maybe contributed to all the smiley faces on returning runners.

As you would expect it was a very strong field with 213 teams starting the event. You can see the results and splits at:

Clare's take:
Re CP C – pace counting is a useful tactic when aiming for CPs that aren’t near any obvious catching features (also we were aided by seeing people who’d overshot coming back towards us J). Come and have a go at the night street league Orienteering series to hone your skills.
Kristy – don’t worry, at least you weren’t in the loo at handover time, as I was last year!
