details of the a club weekend in the Lake District to attempt the Charnley Way (being posted today).
The route is being relaunched this year and you may have seen it in the FRA Calendar.
The 38mile route is a clover leaf between the youth hostels in Langdale, Eskdale and Borrowdale. All legs visit Charnley Cairn on the SW side of Esk Pike. 3 legs run by pairs taking between 8 and 16 hours overall.
The idea is to have a few Macc teams out on the weekend of 13 June, basing ourselves in Langdale.
Should be a good test of athleticism, mountain skills and sociability.
Everyone welcome. The more the merrier.
Don't wait to be asked. Let me know if you want to take part and over the next few months we can organise ourselves into some effective teams.
There seems to be a fair amount of interest, but I've not spoken to anyone who might make up an elite men's team (Didn't we hold the record for the BG Relay?)

This looks a grand route Brian. Maybe it is too soon before my BG attempt, but as long day in the hills and training, it looks very tempting. Anyone fancy it when the daylight is more accommodating?

Just checked and can confirm I'm OK Brian. It's the Passing Cloud race on sunday 15th (and a dance on sat night) so if I can fit these in all well and good. If not I'll have a few more beers. I presume you are planning to go up Friday and do the 3 legs saturday and come back sat/sunday.

Welcome on board to Richard, Matt and Andy. Well behaved dogs and badly behaved Macc Harriers very welcome. We should have several teams.
Plenty of time to sort these out and the team schedules which will, of course, adhere to Tucker's iron rule that such challenges have to finish well before pub closing time. That means a very early start for some Leg 1 pairs.

We currently have almost 3 teams - one women's and two men's, but we will need more to cover the inevitable injuries and calendar clashes. A team comprises 3 pairs -
Current squad is -
Mandy Calvert, Julie Fletcher, Julie Gardner, Angela Leonard, Jo Miles, Hazel Winder, Kath Turner (if recovered from injury)
Colin Ardron, Barry Blyth, Julian Brown, Pete Coppack, Brian Jackson, Matt Lewis, Trevor Longman, Richard Ainley, Andy Skelhorn,
Dave Tucker, Dave Walker.
I hope I've not missed anyone.

Non-runners very welcome. It should be a fun weekend and you could be useful ferrying runners between Langdale, Eskdale and Borrowdale.

Today I've emailed everyone with more details, updated list of checkpoints and an updated sketch map.
Harveys have now published the map of the Charley Way. It is a waterproof 1:40,000 map in the same series as their ones for the BG and Paddy Buckley. Usual price is £12 but for the time being I can get them for £9. Let me know if you want a copy.

More runners please!

Thanks Barry - that could work well.
You've not got Martin in there and Geoff Pett is a possible.
The main thing is to make sure that we have a navigator in each pair. We can have an over 60s and an under 60s Mens teams.
Possible pairings
Leg1 (Langdale - Eskdale) - Barry & Trevor; Matt & Julian
Leg2 (Eskdale - Borrowdale) - Daves Tucker & Walker; Andy & Martin
Leg 3 (Borrowdale - Langdale) - Colin & BJ; Pete and Richard
We could do with a couple more to cover injuries and dropouts before the event. We can always have 3 on a leg.
Women's team - Julie G has got this pretty well sorted and is likely to be -
Leg1 (Langdale - Eskdale) - Hazel and Mandy
Leg2 (Eskdale - Borrowdale) - Angela and Julie Fletch
Leg 3 (Borrowdale - Langdale) - Julie G and AN Other (to be announced)
Hopefully Jo is available and can join one of the legs. Again another runner would be useful to cover injuries etc. (we've already lost Kath).
Is the Chapel Stile campsite OK for us? I note it proclaims itself a family site and we are not a family. Are we allowed on?
Views please. Keep up the discussion.

Yes, both campsites that I looked at in Langdale said 'No groups of more than 4 adults'. I would not feel comfortable breaking the rules.
Does anyone know any other good campsites?
Alternatively, how about YHA?

Pete has said he would prefer the Elterwater (now private) YH and was going to look into this. Perhaps others would like to join him. I think the other Langdale YH is booked out that weekend.
I don't think the ODG site is a problem. We just spread ourselves around. That is further from the Start/Finish at the Langdale YH but is nearer the ODG (I hear Tucker say). I will camp.

We are planning to go up in the campervan and stay on the National Trust site in Langdale - it is strategically situated within walking distance of the ODG! I don't fancy driving to a pub.
Am I right in thinking people are staying in various places?
Where exactly and at what time does this relay malarkey start?
