I'm planning to be out. Can offer a lift from Tytherington (via Poynton if Trev doesn't do his orienteering in Glossop). DW, Mandy/Martin are you around?

Not sure if I will be out tomorrow, so don't want to commit. I might see you there.

Most disappointing - I was expecting a little Christmas saunter. Turned into an excellent morning of real fell running and quite a long one at two and half hours. Interesting aircraft wreck and interesting to see how the vegetation is regenerating from the peat desert I first saw 45 years ago. Shame that Rosie's was full to bursting and we missed out on tea and cake. Many Thanks to Tucker for leading us so skilfully with map and compass in hand across the misty plateau.

As we accidentally stumbled across those aircraft wrecks in the mist when trying to find the Northern path on kinder, we need a return trip to orientate ourselves to where they actually were. I'd not seen these wreck before but it seems they marked the start of a wreckage trail from the western edge of Kinder, over the plateau and into the valley below. The 2 F-86 North American Sabres had impacted the side of kinder and then continued, breaking up as they carried on across the plateau and into Ashop Clough where the heaviest parts such as the engines came to rest. The grid ref was 070 897.

Another highlight besides nearly dying from the cold was the 2 arctic hares we disturbed as we traversed the wintery landscape. More adventures for 2014.

Fascinating about the crash site we visited - I remember Sabres. Everything is logged in remarkable detail on this website http://www.peakdistrictaircrashes.co.uk/pages/peakdistrict.htm Click on the interactive map. I didn't have my anorak hood up at any time on this run, but you need your anorak on to view this site.
