Annual Night Time Orienteering - 13th November

Postby Digby » Sat Oct 12, 2013 7:55 am

This is advanced notice of our annual night time orienteering event on Wednesday 13th November so a month to brush up on your orienteering skills!

The format will be as for previous years:

- The meeting point and pub afterwards will be posted on the forum a week or two beforehand.
- Registration from 6.30pm; briefing at 6.55pm; start at 7pm
- Duration: 90 minutes with penalties for being late!
- This is a pairs event so please identify a running partner or partners in advance, although I'm sure we can team you up with someone on the night if necessary.
- Full FRA gear is mandatory (i.e. hat, gloves, waterproof coat and leggings, whistle plus a head torch and compass)
- No entry fee but a collection for Buxton Mountain Rescue will be made on the night.

To gauge the number of maps we need please can you post on here if you are going to attend.

Thanks, Digby

Hi Digby, Is there an age limit?
My kids are interested and are used to running off-road at night with a headtorch.
Each one would be with an adult of course.

Thanks,
Sarah.

Hi Sarah, no problem with having children along but under 16s will need to run with an adult. I'm not sure it would be that suitable for under 10s and obviously if conditions were unfavourable then we might need to reconsider on the night. Hope that helps. Digby

Venue: Robin Hood pub at Rainow - please park in Smithy's Lane behind the pub rather than in the pub car park

- Registration is from 6.30 to 6.50pm in the pub car park - don't be late!

- Briefing will be at 6.55pm

- This is a pairs event so please identify a running partner in advance, although I'm sure we can team you up with someone on the night if necessary.

- Full FRA gear is mandatory (i.e. hat, gloves, waterproof coat and leggings, whistle plus a head torch and compass)

- Duration: 90 minutes

- Penalties: 1 to 10 minutes late = 1 point per minute; 10 to 20 minutes late = 2 points per minute; 21 minutes+ late = lose all points

- A donation of a minimum of £5 per person will be collected on the night for donation to Buxton Mountain Rescue.

- The event is all on footpaths - no hurdling of walls and fences and pl. observe the country side code at all times, including shutting gates.

- It's going to be a good one with course courtesy of Mr Ewan Douglas so let's have good turn out please!

Any queries post on here.

Oh no, I have to attend a Lupus evening at work :( (Lupus the disease - not canid-related as in the other thread :)) Have a really good time all: I'll be thinking of you as I sit in a darkened room watching presentations about rashes.

Diggers.

I would advisde the pub if not already done so. They tend to have one young lass in there on a Wednesday evening.
The last time I went in she was serving beer, changing barrels and serving food. If we have the usual numbers, they
will be completely overrun.

Thanks everyone that has posted to date confirming attendance.

Just bumping this back up again.

It's a great course devised by Ewan Douglas. Don't forget your compass - you will need it!

Also, just a reminder that this is a pairs event for safety reasons.

Pub notified!
