Postby phil cheek » Wed Jun 12, 2013 9:55 am

All,
Hope you can make it to Pym Chair for this next Wednesday.
The nav is easy but I hope the choice of routes will challenge.
Simon, hope you can make it but if not can you please pass the trophy to someone who is coming.
Thanks
Phil

Hi Phil,
just been reading Julian's notes on this.

Quote "CHILDREN are welcome (accompanied by a competent adult) & I think the route is child friendly." More to the point do Trev, Phil B and I need to be accompanied by a competent child!

Thanks Phil for a great evening of orienteering in the summer sunshine. I was lucky to be with Gavin who saved me from making a few navigational errors. Sorry we didn't make it to the pub.

Thanks Phil for your usual impeccable organisation even down to the two spanners to stop the readies blowing away! Good to see Chris C. down in the lowlands where the air is sweet and the hills are gentle. Somehow managed to overshoot the footbridge checkpoint and seemed determined to reach Whaley Bridge. It was downhill all the way after that

Well done Phil!
Many thanks for another great event. Though I thought forcing a sprint finish on these knackered pins was little unkind

All,

Sounds like a great evening, some photographs from a photographer in MDOC: http://www.petercull.com/f111515475

Peter quotes on his website: "This event is run by Macclesfield Harriers and it named in memory of a young athlete, Polly Lander, who could not outrun Leukemia.
I found out about it from an email circulated through MDOC and I thought I'd go along as it was local. I'm glad I did. It was a fine mid-Summer evening and the orienteering was organised with spartan efficiency; text control descriptions, needle punches and control cards.
A mass start meant that all the local runners could meet up before setting off and as it was also a score event it meant they were all there together in the end. But a real headache for photography as all the fit runners were long gone five minutes after the start and not due back for two hours.
I walked down to Wingather Rocks to find one of the controls and I found climbers. They were a friendly bunch so I took some shots. Then I went back to the finish and covered the end of the race.
Everyone seemed to have enjoyed the event and they left, in convoy, to round off the evening at the Cat & Fiddle. I think Polly would have approved. "
best wishes, Mike G

Thanks a lot for putting it on Phil, and thanks also to everyone for turning out including quite a few proper orienteers.

The map, such as it was, is here...
http://mh.k313.com/mh/fell/plot2013.pdf

although rumour has it that this map might not cover quite enough ground for everyone...

and Peter Cull of MDOC / BOF took some pics of us running in all directions, sometimes even the right ones, thanks a lot Peter, these are here
http://www.petercull.com/f111515475

No doubt Phil will enlighten us with results soon.

If last night hasn't put you off there's more of the same (well, similar) from the Vale Inn Bollington, organised by MDOC, next Wednesday, details of which are here - this might in fact prove more popular than running again next week from Pym Chair. If you want a map PLEASE Email Andy Thornton to reserve one - link on the page below.
