Gel Insoles

Postby Philip Barnes » Mon Dec 05, 2011 1:02 pm

Following a conversation on Sunday morning I thought I would post this for those that don't know:

Boots the Chemist (other suppliers are available) do gel insoles that can be cut to fit and make your unforgiving fell shoes MUCH more comfortable. They do not reduce the volume of the shoe much and I have not had to modify my shoes in any way. I know BrianMC hasn't either. They really help protect your soles from those painful strikes onto sharp stones, especially if your wearing racing footwear like the innov8 mudclaw or x-talon. I thinkl they cost about £8.

I use them and find them really good.

Barry, heel pads only really work if you run on your heels ( heel strike ) and that is a different issue.

I started using heel pads in trail and road shoes after I had achilles problems. Lost the skin of my heels doing the anniverdsary waltz this year. Wearing X talons on the last descent coming off Cat Bells (ground v hard) caused my heels to feel like they were burning. Ian Symminton had the same problem that day. I've since used heel pads in my fell shoes.

I just wear a couple of cardbord boxes, or at least that's what they feel like at the moment, and waterproof socks.
