Macclesfield Harriers

Thought I'd post this up for anyone who might fancy a go.

Very friendly bunch, definitely beginner-friendly, and the courses range from 'pretty easy' to 'not very easy as all', but you can't get too lost (if you find yourself outside Lyme Park you're probably wrong).

Just turn up with suitable gear for running and a compass. Would consider long pants as sometimes there are a few spiky bits to get through.

Just thought i would say that Dave&I went along to one of the begineers orienteering and were very welcomed. After persuading the registration folks we could manage the longest course (3.8km) in the hour we had before everyone wanted to go home, we had a good run around and found reading a map with trees marked as white a suitable challenge! So thanks to all who put their time into organising these events,

The first of this year's Lyme Park introduction to orienteering is
this Thursday 1st May, then
Tuesday 6th May,
Thursday 15th May
Tuesday 20th May 2008.
anytime between 5.30pm and 7.00pm.

Open to all, we'll be along, somewhere.

How many of these introduction events do you need to go to Julian?... shouldn't you be competent by now?

What's the bearing for Lyme Park?

I should be but still manage to get lost on my way to work
- or going upstairs at home (which is usually not a problem 'cos when I get there I've forgotten what I went for...am I the only one though).

On the weekend we were supposed to be going round Somerset but ended up in Devon - how bad is that ?

And on BG Leg 1 I've taken at least one up Latrigg on the way to Skiddaw - fortunately they didn't notice......

Seriously they put a lot of effort into setting up the courses, they're a good evening out whatever your age and ability.

In answer to Barry's question - there are no bears at all in Lyme Park, only sheep deer and that - but I think it would be a good idea to have a few grizzlies there to keep the tourists down.

Barry, there may be a string event for you, or if not, Gavin can navigate you round if you want to do it as a pair.

I've seen a stoat in Lyme Park.....and a flying dear in Macc Forest

Some Hills are quite steep for old ladies with zimmer frames in Macc forest, so a flying dear would be quite possible. Whether they were one of Daves posse is another matter.

The deer in question nearly took me out while Dave, Phil and I were mountain biking around the forest the other night.
