BGR - Tom W - Friday 24 June

Postby Tom Whittington » Mon Jun 13, 2016 8:29 pm

Dear all,

10 days to go! Thanks to those that have offered support to date. Sorry for the very late notice on this forum! If anyone else fancies a trot out and an adventure please let me know, it would be great fun and experience for anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of being involved on a BG before. We have HQ within a short walk from the Moot Hall and will endeavour to put anyone up that is around to help. The attempt has an earlier than typical start with 5pm the plan of attack. I want to be up Clough Head before dark!

Barry Blyth
Paul Booth

Threlkeld – Zow (Lady W)

Leg 2: 830pm
Steve Swallow (nav)

Dunmail - Zow & Rob

Leg 3: 1am

Wasdale - Tim, Jen (In Laws) & Daisy (mini me)

Leg 4: 8am

Zow will take Leg 5 runners and return with anyone that needs a lift back (via Newlands)

Anyone else that is still about and fancies a trot out

Any hawk-eyed out there will have realised that the schedule only allows 4hrs for leg4. It should read Honister 1pm and Moot Hall 4pm.

On the plus side, there might be a meeting of minds on Dale Head with someone who's a bit of a legend... https://www.brathay.org.uk/caldbeck-to-wasdale

It's tradition that on completion of a successful BG you stay in the pub until closing time so, firstly it may be bit of a long session if you get there at 3 and secondly I hope the timing allows for you to have a shower before appearing at the bar.

Hope to see you at some stage when you have slowed down a bit towards the end and hope you get good weather.

Dave - you have clearly seen through my plan. Yes the real reason for starting early is to get a shower before arriving at the pub smelling of roses having not lost any drinking time. All that stands between a full night in the Dog and Gun is England winning their group, and a successful little trot out in the hills. In the words of Skelhorn: "What could possibly go wrong".

I may, depending on whether I think I may be slowing things down or not, join you on legs 3 and 4 as well.
I will also see how this works transport wise!

Is there anyone wanting to share a lift up to Keswick. I am not able to get away until just before 6pm on Friday, but hope to see Tom come through Threlkeld, and would ideally like to head back after a quick celebratory drink after the finish on Saturday evening?

Not sure. As far as I know, Steve and Graham are heading back Saturday morning, Dan and Carl have their own training antics over the weekend, and Barry and Tucker are over in Braithwaite. Everyone else staying until Sunday when there could be several options.

Last minute cancellation sadly. I had thought my cold had subsided last night, but feeling rough today and the BG is too far a challenge when not feeling on top form. A very hard decision to make given logistics are all in place, but with so many involved I believe the right one. I will reschedule.

Sorry to all who had committed to help.

Commiserations Tom.... I learnt a hard lesson that if you're not right, best to delay. Tough call as it is... Best of luck for the re-match. I'll be looking out for it with interest.
