2014 FELL CHAMPS

I've attached the spreadsheet that includes this years races and individuals for whom I've worked out a handcap and displayed the effect of applying it assuming everyone tied in 1st place for the 1st race. There are a 1or 2 individuals to adjust/include based on more recent. I will be adjusting the handycap by 1 % for those aged 50+ on the basis that typically vets slow by that amount at that age.

I will be emphasising the handycap element as I think this will encourage people to be more competitive (winner takes the Ken Hall Trophy).

The 1st couple of races Cloud 9 and Edale Skyline are pre entry.

cheers Barry

Hi Barry,

Couldn't see my name on there, if you need to calculate a handicap for me here are my positions in the only 2 races I did last year: http://www.thepowerof10.info/athletes/p ... eid=413985

Also did the Fell Handicap in December.

Cheers
Andy

Most local fell races and Wednesday series can be found on Altrincham's site.

Cloud 9 the 1st of our club fell races was held last sunday. Conditions were good although the fields were as "gummy" as ever. There were 19 Macc Harriers running in a field of "432"! This meant some bottle-necking unless you were near the front. Andy Lamont was 1st Harrier home in 5th place followed by Pete Neild 29th and Mark Horsley Frost in 39th place. Mark was also 2nd MV45. Sarah Harris ands Helen Evans were 3rd and 5th ladies respectively. Yours truly pipped 3 other MV 65's to take 1st in that catagory.

I've attached the table and ranked it based on hadycaps I've calculated from last year's races. So although Andy is leading the club champs at the moment he's only mid table allowing for handycap. Helen Evans, Sarah Harris and Mark Wheelton are 1st 3 after handycap followed by Dave Shoesmith and Neil Clarke.

If you have a handycap of 1 it's because I don't have race info from last year (unless you are Andy). Let me know races that you have done and I'll work out a handycap.

Next race is Edale Skyline (full) followed by Mow Cop (local and relatively easy; enter on the day Apr 6). Kinder Downfall Apr 27th is pre entry.

AFTER WINCLE TROUT; our 8th race!

28 Harriers in this field of 340 finishers (Julian working his magic; race limit 300!).

1ST Home for Macc was Mark Walker in 8th followed by Chris Bentley in 13th. Other notable performances were Sarah Harris 2nd lady and Clare Griffin 1st LV 40.

Rachael Lawrance still leads the club champs allowing for handicap followed by yours truly. Clare Griffin, Mark Messenger and Matt Lewis have races in hand and will probably be battling it out for the "handycap" honours. Still lots of races for others to come up on the rails.

Barry

PS Boars Head, Passing Cloud and Kinder Trog coming up this month.
PS I've to allocate handicaps for some runners (ascribed 1)

Have attached the latest spreadsheet after the Boars Head race. Another good turnout of Harriers with 20 racing in almost a record field of 220 surprising given the downpours late afternoon.

This was our 8th race so almost 1/2 way (10 to go). Several runners have done 5 or 6 races (6 races to qualify including at least 1 long).

In the club champs Mark Messenger and Matt Lewis are currently 1st and 2nd with 4511 and 4104 pts respectively followed by Andy Lamont on 3931 but he has a race in hand. Mark and Matt also lead the Handicapped version with Rachael Lawrance in 3rd.

To date 84 Harriers have turned out in at least 1 race.

Next race up is Passing Cloud 15/6 followed by the Kinder Trog 22/6.The Trog is a relatively fast race for a "Long" a lot of it being quite runnable.

I reduced it to best 5 out of 8 as 2 races, Vanessa Chapel and Goyts Moss, were cancelled for this year I think the latter for environmental reasons. I'l be putting an updated table after the boars head on the website this w/e (you are just behind Matt in 3rd place Mark is 1st but Simon/Andy are favourites if they complete 5 races. The next race is Hope Wakes July 2nd.

have attached the latest table after the Bollington Nostalgia race last w/e. Jacob Roberts and Alistair Thornton ran well coming in 3rd and 5th places respectively.

Current standings remain with Matt Lewis 1st and yours truly 2nd in both main and handicapped competitions. Both have completed 6 qualifying races (including at least 1 long). Several have done 6 or 7 races but needto do a long. Windgather Oct 12th is the next long followed by the Roaches and the club handicap.

Rachael Lawrance leads the ladies with Clare Griffin in 2nd place but with a race in hand. Both need to do a long.

Table after Teggs Nose attached.

The 3 leading the championship (also on handicap) remains as Matt Lewis, Barry Blyth and Mark Stanbridge. This lead won't be challenged until the next long race Windgather when Mark Messenger, Rachael Lawrance, Phil Barnes and Neil Clarke will all come into contention particularly allowing for handicapy. Next race is the Stannage Struggle.
