Easter Weekend - Anyone for a day away.

Fairfield Horshoe on Sunday?

Is anyone up for a long slow day trip out in some proper hills with some proper snow on Saturday or Sunday (should be no traffic then).
Kentmere Horseshoe the Berwyn or the Carnedds also seem accessible.
Kinder may have to do if there is no enthusiasm for greater things.

I'd like to reccy the Fairfield Horseshoe from Grasmere sometime. A bit further on than Kentmere. Happy to have a longer day out sunday but makes sense to get a carload.

May be interested (not sure if I'll be out tomorrow evening though) but suggest before you arrange anything you look on Met Office forecast for Lakes District under "Ground Conditions" first. Looks rather interesting!

Some of us will be up there anyway this weekend - in the Kentmere area.
Now -Greg & me were there last weekend before the serious snow started, and even as low as Kentmere Pike, and Harter Fell serious mountain equipment was required.
So, Hazel is right - check underfoot conditions first on the various websites.

Only Lillys login is working today -

So the plan so far is me Tucker, Barry and possibly Claire to meetup at 8am (after clocks go forwards) on Sunday - for a serious epic on the Fairfield Horseshoe.

We will all need kahtoolas or similar, and it might be an idea to throw ice axes in the car, but a walking pole to use as a brake would probably be a minumum given the likely conditions.

Forgive my ignorance, but how are going to 'recce' anything when any useful land mark will be under 6ft drifts? I think just throwing an ice axe in a car won't be much use. Can I suggest taking it out of the car after you arrive?
Windchill forecast about -18c according to http://www.lakedistrictweatherline.co.uk/

Take care- no seriously, have fun but let's not be guilty of not taking the lakes seriously just coz we spend a lot of time there.

I'll take pole(s) ie what I've got. Might have a fair bit of snow but rock/ice is likely to only be a problem around Hart Crag. I've got the route map and description from when I last did the race. Starts from Rydal. Only 10 mls and 3000 ft.

Can meet park up at my house if you want.

I was going to offer to drive, as I have Lilly as well, so we can all meet at yours at 8 anyway.
