9.30 Mam Nick Car park. A ~2 hour run along the Mam Tor ridge (maybe) towards Lose Hill & Castleton to explore this scenic area in unusually fine weather for a feeling of Spring (bring your waterproofs just in case).
Use the car park at SK124832 for free if you have a Nat Trust card or park in the road or pay up if not.
Picture below is the view from Mam Tor along the route we could take.
Mam Tor is also known locally as the Shivering Mountain. The best analogy of Mam Tor is a cake with layers of gritstone and shale. The layers are formed from a river delta that existed in the area around 300 million years ago. The hill is named the Shivering Mountain as it has shifted in directions that have forced the outer walls of the hill to crumble away.
Tea & Cakes at the Otter Centre afterwards.
