Weds 21 May - Orienteering

Postby Brian J » Wed May 07, 2014 5:23 pm

Further details
The Scamper-O - Wed 21 May

Help on the night still needed! -
I have organised this event as a contrast to the enormously complex and time consuming O-events I am usually involved in so it's very much seat of pants on the night.
Hazel (and possibly Kerry) will be on registration. John Mooney is on the Finish. Don't be surprised if you get volunteered for any other tasks like parking and extra help on the finish.

Maps - There will be 20 A3 maps (approx. 1:12,000) and 20 (approx 1:18,000). Should be plenty. Will try to get them in plastic bags, but bring spare bags anyway.
Question sheets will be laser printed but need protection if it is wet, so bring plastic bags. Forecast looks OK!
Bring a pen, compass and take a cagoule (some controls are at almost 400m above sea level)
Well-behaved dogs note the bird nesting signs around the area so put your owner on a lead please.
Most controls score 1pt but a few score 2 and 3pts.
Penalties - 1pt per min for first 5 mins over 2 hours. 2pts per min for next 5 mins. At 10mins over lose all points!

Venue - Gradbach Car Park (GR 998662) Post code SK17 0SU
Similar area to that used by Digby for one of his nocturnal autumn score events.
Registration from 6.30 pm
Start at 7.00pm
Format – 2 hour Orienteering Score Event on public footpaths using clue sheets with pen. Map provided.
Pairs or individuals. Juniors accompanied by an adult.
Afterwards in the Ship Inn, Wincle

Rik and I are going to come along too, thanks Brian. Plus one more if that's ok - my sister Helen (not a Harrier but she's a handy orienteer and fancies this).

Looking forward to it!
