9.30am Flash Bar Stores. A53, Quarnford, Buxton, Derbyshire. SK17 0TF.

A ~8 - 10 mile off-road jaunt kindly led by Kath to explore this characterful terrain at a steady pace in the warm Spring sunshine (relatively speaking). We start at 1518ft so the first few miles will be easy and gentle! The route includes Chrome Hill, High Edge Raceway and Earl Sterndale. Conditions underfoot - good.

Do car share as parking is limited and we don't want to jam up Lindsey's car parking area. May be able to use the pub car park if we get permission. 9.00 at Tucker's for car sharing.

Besides tea & cakes in the stores after the run, it's possible to buy local sausages and other nice things there.

Flash Bar Stores takes its name from the tollhouse built here in 1771 which is still in existence today. A tollgate, or toll bar, was in operation here on the site of the road that ran from Macclesfield to Longnor via Three Shires head, which dissects the current A53.

There is a vast history in this area documented in two local books by Margaret Parker; “Flash Back” available from Lindsey in the shop.
