I really ought to be first reserve now, coz I can see in the dark, and chew sticks and everything.

I'd also be interested in trip down if one were to be arranged... Any prospect Phil?

Thank Phil for arranging that with Ed. Well good, so many interesting aspects to the visit such as the vastness of the chambers, the geology, the history and the imagination of the mining way of life at the time. Also the precipitous ledge traverses and that chimney climb were especially heroic. One slip and .....

A memorable way to spend you birthday, I'm sure. I hope we look good in the photos you are publishing!

Right, that's enough - no more! This thread has got nothing to do with running and it should be banned forthwith.

But it is interesting and I'm sure that such "social" events albeit in a subterranean medium, can only be good for bonding and could even be of practical use should one fall into a hole when out running.

Please if there is sufficient support for another similar event, I would like to be included (and I know Andrew A. would too).

Thanks Phil for putting it on (and happy birthday !) a jolly jape which was surprisingly hard work (mooching around for 3 hours +, we needed the beer afterwards !), but lots to see and expertly guided by someone who clearly had lots of knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, the mines.

I'm sure if a gang of 7 or so of you who missed out this time got in touch with the caving club they'd organise another jaunt for you...

Hi Philip - many thanks for arranging this. I was really overwhelmed by the scale of the mines - I really had no idea it was like that!

A good night out...
